Set texts at C2 Proficiency (CPE)
The set text question is in Part 2 of the Writing Paper and is one of four questions candidates can choose from during this part. Candidates should not attempt the optional set text question in Part 2 unless they have the necessary vocabulary and understanding of the text to answer the task set.

- Colm Tóibín: Brooklyn (any edition); film directed by John Crowley (2015)
- M.L. Stedman: The Light Between Oceans (any edition); film directed by Derek Cianfrance (2016)
Set texts for C2 Proficiency January 2020 – December 2021:
- Nick Hornby: About a Boy (any edition); film directed by Chris and Paul Weitz (2002)
- Dodie Smith: I Capture the Castle (any edition); film directed by Tim Fywell (2000)
Teachers may choose to prepare candidates for questions on the set text by studying the film as well as, or instead of, the novel.
