A2 Key Is Going Digital - What Schools Need to Know
Cambridge English has confirmed that paper-based A2 Key will be withdrawn after its final two sessions this year: 9 May and 13 June 2026. After that date, the paper-based format will no longer be available.
For most schools, the practical impact is minimal. Two strong alternatives remain fully available:
**A2 Key Digital **continues unchanged - the same qualification, the same CEFR A2 standard, delivered on computer with faster results and greater flexibility in choosing exam dates.
A2 Key for Schools remains available in both paper-based and digital formats and is the natural choice as the majority of A2 Key candidates are school-aged learners. The content is age-appropriate and better matched to school-aged learners - and importantly, the certificate carries identical recognition to standard A2 Key. The words "for Schools" do not appear on the certificate.
For schools currently registering students for paper-based A2 Key, now is the moment to confirm which format makes sense going forward. Swiss Exams is here to help you navigate the transition and find the right exam session for your students.
