A tradition that highlights commitment

Each November, Gymnasium St. Antonius celebrates the students who take on the challenge of international language certifications. This year, the school awarded 10 DELF B2 diplomas and 55 Cambridge English certificates – a total of 65 achievements across French and English. These numbers underline the school’s strong and growing language-learning culture.

Vice-Rector Michel Corminboeuf opened the ceremony with a humorous reflection on his own experiences learning French, reminding students how valuable practical language skills can be in everyday life.

A ceremony with a good sense of fun

The ceremony was not only about handing out certificates. It was far more interactive and engaging. Guests were invited to join in two activities: a quiz challenge and a music game. These elements created a warm community feeling and made the event memorable for students, teachers, and parents alike.

Honouring Cambridge certificates with a quiz challenge

A series of English-language trivia questions encouraged quick thinking. Guests were asked factual questions such as: “What is the most common word in English?”

Prizes were given not to those with the best results, but to those with the lowest scores. They received practical irregular-verb tables — a light-hearted twist that reflected the school’s playful approach to learning. It was a simple but effective way to remind students that mastering English accuracy pays off in the long run.

A musical challenge across English and French

Students translated and performed well-known English and French songs, but in the opposite language.

Hearing “Champs-Élysées” in English or “Bohemian Rhapsody” in French brought smiles to the audience and highlighted how creative and confident the students have become in both languages.

This bilingual performance captured the spirit of the ceremony perfectly: celebrating achievement in both programme pathways, DELF and Cambridge, while showcasing what learners can do when language skills become truly active.
