What’s the difference: Self-study vs. class-based version?
Until now, the Authentic Digital Practice Tests were only available in a class-based format, where a teacher needed to create a class and provide students with an access code. For individual candidates without a teacher, Swiss Exams temporarily filled that role by acting as the “teacher,” manually assigning access.
With the new Self-Study version, this is no longer necessary. Students can purchase and access their practice tests independently through our Online Shop. No class key is required – making preparation more comfortable and accessible for self-learners.
However, the class-based version still makes perfect sense for students who are studying with a school or a teacher. It remains an important tool in a classroom setting where teachers can manage groups, assign tasks, and monitor progress collectively. So, the class-based and self-study versions complement each other and both continue to serve distinct needs.
For teachers: Monitor progress with the teacher version
There is also a dedicated Teacher Version platform, which allows schools and teachers to:
- Assign practice tests to students
- Monitor student progress in real time
- View results by skill (Reading, Listening, etc.)
- Access performance reports, including estimated CEFR levels
- Create multiple classes and manage students across different levels
- Use one teacher code to access all CEFR levels available in the class-based format
If you're a teacher interested in trying out the Teacher Version and would like to receive a test access code, please contact us!
